Fairfield, Utah
(Settled in 1855)
Named for its pleasant surroundings. Col. Albert Sidney Johnston established Camp Floyd here and named it for John B. Floyd, secretary of war under President Buchanan. The camp was later renamed Fort Crittenden for John Jordan Crittenden, U.S. senator from Kentucky. The town received its present name in 1861, after the troops were withdrawn to Civil War battlefields.
